Nearly two months after he dropped Drogas Light, Lupe Fiasco returns with a new track called “Kneelin’ on Needles.”

The Chicago rapper released the song via SoundCloud on Saturday, and used a simple image with the No. 7 as the cover art. This, of course, is leading many people to believe the track will land on Lupe’s upcoming seventh studio album Drogas Wave, which he teased a couple of weeks ago.

“Kneelin on Needles” begins with a shout out to Colin Kaepernick, who is suspected of being blacklisted by the NFL for kneeling during the National Anthem last season.

“Kaepernick, what up? I knew they were going to do that to you,” Lupe says in the intro over a Tek.Lun instrumental. “But it’s all good, though. You got to stand up for something.”

He also references Kendrick Lamar’s recently released “Humble” track: “K. Dot want stretch marks?/I want to own everything west of the best parks.” The line suggests the track was recorded sometime at the end of the week, as “Humble” didn’t debut until Thursday.

“Kneelin on Needles” is right in line with Lupe’s previous politically charged outputs. He also addresses Donald Trump, racism, and calls for other artists (including himself, perhaps) to “be more like Chance [the Rapper].”

You can listen to “Kneelin on Needles” below. Stay tuned as more information about Drogas Wave comes through.
